Five years ago, we didn't know what to expect when Adam Bruckner first contacted us to make a documentary. We set out to make The Backyard Philly Project which follows the live of four teenagers living in Philadelphia's projects known to the locals as Penn Town. What we didn't know was we were going to be on a journey following the lives of the four teenagers (now amazing young adults) --- Tasia, Montae, Brianna and David.
This past summer, Bruce and I went on a little film journey to film a five year update on everyone's lives. We had an amazing time just catching up, walking around Philly, and enjoying conversation over pizza at The Helping Hand Rescue Mission this past June. We know we left The Backyard Philly Project wondering where will everyone end up? Will Montae and Brianna graduate high school? What happened to David's diploma? Will Tasia enjoy leaving town and embrace her new life as a college student? We didn't know the answer to those questions, and hoped to see them answered in the future.
Well, the future is now. On January 4, 2018 we will be releasing The Backyard Philly Project - 5 Years Later (we call it "5 Years Later" for short). This is a short documentary that will give you the answers to some of your questions. I am so proud of Montae, Brianna, David and Tasia --- you will find their stories are filled with raw honesty and truth. I'm thankful they were willing to create this reunion video and share with everyone.
As part of the release of this short documentary, we finally released The Backyard Philly Project Remix cut that we did back in 2014. If you don't know anything about The Backyard Philly Project, I highly recommend that you start with the original cut or remix before you move on to 5 Years Later. You can watch The Backyard Philly Project Remix here.
For now, come back and visit the website January 4, 2018 for "5 Years Later." See you soon.
